About me as a Therapist and Clinical Supervisor

I am a  UKCP Registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor specialising in Individual and Couples Therapy. I have a private practice in Exmouth Devon. My lovely bright, relaxing Consulting Room overlooks the beautiful Exe Estuary and The Haldon Hills beyond.

I have 24 years experience as a Therapist and 13 yrs as a Clinical Supervisor in the NHS. Currently I have both a Private Practice,  I am also Clinical Lead and Director in an NHS Commissioned Primary Care Counselling Service in East Devon. I work with a broad spectrum of clients. Among my areas of expertise are Childhood Trauma, Domestic Violence and Abuse, Low Self Esteem, Anxiety, PTSD and  Depression.

The Therapeutic Relationship is unique, it is a time when patients/clients can experience a non judgemental approach, the beginning of developing a rapport within which you can discuss their concerns,distress, thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I feel it is important to inform and encourage my patients/clients to be aware they have the right to say what they think, feel and believe about the issues they are concerned about. This is central, I feel to developing the openness and honesty needed to develop an on-going therapeutic relationship.
Recognition,acknowledgment of the specific nature and complexities of the presenting issues/problems are important and contribute enormously towards acceptance,change and growth for the patient/client.

Therapy, I believe is a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand ourselves in a way that promotes and maintains change. It helps reduce distress and symptoms of Depression, Anxiety and PTSD. In order for this process of change to take place it is vital you the client engages and commits to the therapy, this often takes place over several weeks.
